Commercial concrete slabs are the workhorses of a property—holding up loading docks, storefront approaches, and drive aisles. Parking Lots Plus installs and repairs slabs built specifically for Arkansas sites.

Unlike smaller pads, concrete slabs spread out under wide loads and absorb turning movements from vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment. They need structure, not just thickness. A reliable commercial slab starts with proper excavation, engineered base preparation, and steel reinforcement designed for the loads it will carry.

What makes commercial slabs different? Commercial concrete slabs are designed to handle sustained heavy loads, vehicle traffic, and industrial use that would destroy residential-grade flatwork. They require greater thickness (typically 6 to 8 inches or more), heavier rebar reinforcement, engineered subgrade compaction, and strategic joint placement to control cracking under stress.

Our process begins with grading and compacting an aggregate base to create a stable foundation. We set forms to the exact dimensions and elevation required, then install steel rebar or welded wire mesh in a grid pattern for structural reinforcement. The concrete is poured, vibrated to eliminate air voids, leveled with screeds, and finished to the appropriate texture. Control joints and expansion joints are cut or formed at proper intervals.

Common commercial slab applications include loading dock approaches and aprons, drive aisles in warehouse and distribution facilities, storefront and building entrance approaches, forklift traffic areas and staging zones, heavy equipment storage areas, and truck turning and backing areas that experience concentrated loads.

Clay soils, steep temperature swings, and year-round traffic all influence how a slab behaves over time. Arkansas clay is particularly challenging because it expands when wet and shrinks when dry, creating movement that cracks undersized or poorly reinforced slabs. We build them with reinforcement patterns, base depths, and grading techniques specifically suited to these conditions. Contact Parking Lots Plus for a free site evaluation and slab estimate.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How thick should a commercial concrete slab be?

Most commercial slabs are 6 to 8 inches thick with steel reinforcement, depending on the loads they carry. Loading dock approaches and forklift areas often require thicker sections and heavier rebar.

### What is the difference between a concrete pad and a concrete slab?

Pads are smaller, purpose-built platforms supporting a specific item like a dumpster or generator. Slabs are larger structural surfaces designed to handle distributed loads and vehicle traffic across a wide area.

### How long before a new slab can take traffic?

Most commercial slabs reach light-traffic strength in 7 days and full design strength at 28 days. We schedule pours to give your slab the cure time it needs before going into service.
